2008-12-22
The Grand Prix of the Polish Masters in Katowitz has recently been won by Aniek Poels with Ricardo, a son of Heartbreaker out of the international show jumper mare Jente van Damiro. Ricardo’s grandam, Florence Ask, with the Danish horsewoman Lone Kroman was also a renowned international show jumper horse in her time. Ricardo- son and grandson, thus, of international show jumper mares- was auctioned in 1998 at the National Foal Auction Prinsjesdag
When one hears ‘Katowitz’ one perhaps thinks of a competition in a backwater but Aniek Poels won her first international Grand Prix at a ‘fabulous competition’. Aniek Poels: “The competition was held in a sports palace and there was a large audience. It can easily be compared to the marvellous competitions in Holland.”
After Poels and Ricardo had done well in the qualifying heats, she saddled up her ten year old gelding for the Grand Prix. “Ricardo is a real trooper. He has a super disposition and is always willing to work.”
Together with Aniek Poels, Roelof Bril was the only other fault-free competitor in the Grand Prix.. “It was a difficult test. We had a lot to do and it was very technically demanding.”, said Roelof Bril. In the jump-off, Aniek Poels with Ricardo was the lucky winner.
